More like "SetBack"

I've been waiting two months to make that joke. It's not worth it.

The offending scene above required over 22000 lines of code, making it just about necessary to hardsub the damn thing onto the video (the narrator would've covered up the bottom text, too). 2muchfun!

But are they worth the wait? They're worth *A* wait, yes. There's a few things we did that other groups didn't that we wouldn't have been able to had everything else gone smoothly.

The overall quality with these is what you can expect from the batch (which I've been retackling with renewed guts). Stammering is lowered a bad, timing reworked and such.
At any rate, preferably not so slow later... Enjoy my seedbox, if I have it set up right. OTL

And an update to the usual ugly .srt rips of the official BD subs: http://www.mediafire.com/download/f1avzdpwgtqpb1r/JJBA_-_Official_English_Subtitles_(Volumes_1_to_5).rar

I was hoping to have some other stuff ready, but it isn't yet. My bad.

Not ready, but not dead yet

25 and 26 are still not ready, please don't write us off yet. They should be back on track any day now.

In the meantime, I've got two things I wanted to share:

One are the liner notes for the "Musik" OST, containing lyrics for most of the voiced tracks:
http://rapidshare.com/files/3649453348/Musik%20notes.rar

The other is an update to my early post containing the official BD subs ripped by me, but not made by me. This contains the subs from the first four volumes. Nobody's doing it, so... I thought I might as well, so people can use it for reference without downloading a whole video to do so. Here it is:

25 isn't finished yet.

I'm sure you can imagine why. THAT sequence.

In a mix of Phantom Blood backlog, preparations for the BDs, the new episode already out, and assorted matters of work and school, the typesetting isn't over yet.

If you don't count episode 3, this is the longest delay yet. I can only apologize and hope for your understanding. Those of you who've been following us in spite of JoJo being so heavily subbed, you've been great. I hope our work on 25, 26, the BDs, and Stardust Crusaders will continue to appeal to you.

There's plenty of work left to do, we won't be slowpokes forever! Stay tuned!

Episode 24 - Are they still on Namek?

We're on Namek, too! Why do you think our torrents have gotten out so quickly lately?

Episode 23...

We're late again... but we're hard at work on stuff just as important. Please believe me. OTL

BD Subs (not mine, though)

I haven't forgotten that a long time ago I promised to post up links to sub files directly. I've been completely lax in doing that, for a few reasons, mainly my always finding errors after I'd already proofread and released the episode.

But I'd like to offer this, at least. These are the official English subs for the BDs in a simple .srt format. Certain lines (mainly ones that were repositioned or overlapped) have had their timing interrupted, so this is not a substitute for the real thing... wait, that doesn't make any sense.

Anyway, if you have a group that's translating to another language. You may be able to use these for reference. I make lots of mistakes, and so do other groups. The official subs make a few small errors with context, and miss a few small lines. But it's a fine, professional job.

These are the subs for the first two volumes, meaning episodes 1 through 6:

Episode 22: Nice shirt, gay-wad

Link: http://www.nyaa.eu/?page=torrentinfo&tid=411991
I am bushed.

You will probably notice a few changes, like the ellipses and the italicizing. For the former, it has to do with me deciding to stop leaving... I don't know what to call them, but when you start a new line and the first word is not capitalized because it's a continuation of the previous. I'm tired of having lines like that. I want my subs to look more like subs, and eventually they will. Some of the trailing ellipses (I don't know if that's even what to call them), will be deleted as they are probably a.... ugh...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ellipsis
In Japanese manga, the ellipsis by itself represents speechlessness, or a "pregnant pause". Given the context, this could be anything from an admission of guilt to an expression of being dumbfounded at another person's words or actions. As a device, the ten-ten-ten is intended to focus the reader on a character while allowing the character to not speak any dialogue. This conveys to the reader a focus of the narrative "camera" on the silent subject, implying an expectation of some motion or action. It is not unheard of to see inanimate objects "speaking" the ellipsis.

In other words, some of the DOT DOT DOT DOT DOTs you read in a raw are a cue to 'stop reading and look at the art in the panel again'. But in an animu there is already a camera so that is all pointless.
I am leaving some ellipses in for pause after short unfinished lines, and to break up long-ass lines. Others will be omitted and hopefully the subs will flow easier and look  more professional. I just caught myself misspelling "professional", oh what a lovely blog.

Part of all that clashes with the latter. The italicizing, which by the way is a long-belated thing I learned about a long time ago when proofreading mangoes. Just see it as emphasis. I am even less-prepared to explain it than I am elipses. But please trust me on it. Certain parts of the dialogue in Japanese are emphasized a certain way in the manga. I want to convey this as I am a literalfag.

My objective, I guess, is to have a script that reads exactly like the manga. Not just in a literal styling, but with similar tone. Even if I am now omitting certain aspects the animu renders meaningless, I still want to get things as close as possible to it.

I also had some fun with the two vampires that hand off the crossbows. Have a clacker cracker saltine if you noticed without reading this first.

Someone please do me a solid and edit the thing to which I am making the ha-ha-funny-is-joke joke. I am going to need some melatonin if I want to get any sleep this week. BECAUSE REV UP THOSE PHANTOM BLOOD SUBS, BATTLE TENDENCY IS ENDING AT LEAST A WEEK EARLY!

Episode 21 - Ripples are bad, m'kay?

Okay, my headlines are not getting any funnier.

OTL We're late again, sorry. OTL

Translating all of Beck's 'zura''s the way I did was not a blind rip-off of I-O, tempted though I was to do so. I tried to research it, and got some help along the way. I decided to make it a bit more annoying, plus... I guess it'd count as "rural". Anyway, Beck is obviously no Mr. Mackie so I hope this doesn't affect your experience.

Episode 20 - Shh, no dreams...

Episode 20: http://www.nyaa.eu/?page=torrentinfo&tid=407522

Reminder that "sapone" is the Italian word for "soap". I adopted it as "シャボン"'s translation since it sounds pretty close nonetheless.

Episode 19 - I guess Araki is a cat person

 Link: http://www.nyaa.eu/?page=torrentinfo&tid=406125

Cat score: One tormented, one gets some jerky.
Dog score: DEAD ENDS

I am sorry this took so long. Without going into specifics... school is difficult and some things take greater priority. Release just was not possible the past four days. Under ideal circumstances, we might have been able to beat Nutbladder or release on their heels.

Tuesday 12 February 2013

Episode 18: Insert Joke Here

Wait, put it here.

Link: http://www.nyaa.eu/?page=torrentinfo&tid=403546
I'm sorry. Something I wasn't used to happened with our raw, and I was unable to deal with it fast enough to get things in gear. Real life interfered and here we are, on Tuesday. Ugh.
I don't want this feeling to be familiar ever again.

Monday 4 February 2013

Episode 17 - Don't call me Shirley

Considering how disgusting Esidisi's gimmick is, and I don't mean the wailing, I can't believe the blood vessels aren't at all censored. I mean, damn. Nothing else in JJBA is this creepy. Late night anime, woo.

Episode 17: http://www.nyaa.eu/?page=torrentinfo&tid=400658

We got slow on account of a misplaced .ts and a recent schedule change not being so good a thing. I'd hate to be this slow again, releasing past Sunday night.

If "Sapone Launcher" is a change that confuses you, it's the Italian word for "soap", for which I found out "shabon" is more or less meant to be. Not "Bubble Launcher" and probably not "Soap Launcher". Shortcuts bite you in the ass. Don't take shortcuts.

I think it's also time I do some research on the ellipsis and em-dash. While I do still catch myself comma-splicing, the distinction between these two break-off practices is unclear to me still.

My volume 1 BD is still in transit. I want it to hurry up and get here already...

COOOOwner of a Lonely Heart (episode 16)

There is an awful lot of RIPPEL BREATHAN in this episode. I have to say that I like the Ripple a lot, and how silly the breathing sounds is a part of why.
While this episode isn't beautifully animated, overdoing the stills. I don't think something like this is unjustified. After all, an episode with a lot of stationary action like climbing the most homoerotic wall of all time is a good excuse to relax your budget.

Episode 16: http://www.nyaa.eu/?page=torrentinfo&tid=397484

As I pathetically note, episode 15 had a couple of ugly errors. I made those errors because I was rushing things again like an idiot.
So if you're still wondering why episode 2-9 isn't out yet. That. The... the contrapositive of that? Oh god, I'm glad I still remember what a contrapositive is.

Sunday 20 January 2013

Holy Wubstorm (episode 15)

No time for extensive yammering, sorry.
Am making another wall of text reminiscent of early rambles.

Ultraviolets and Ultraviolence (Episode 14)

It just goes to show that this is one of the most violent Parts of JJBA. Even turning pureed Nazi heads into tomato soup is the most David could do to sanitize the scene.
On the note of cuisine, I kind of agree with another person that the spaghetti scene's comic timing suffered a bit from the pace. I really like this scene in the manga.

Episode 13 - GO HOME AND BE A PILLAR MAN

(Sorry to rip that joke off twice, whoever it was that dropped it in the stream)

It's here!
It's out!
We made it by Sunday night! We probably could've released much, much sooner if not for those dang attack-boxes. I've got to read ahead some more and check for how many more of those are to come.

But the anime's half-done, and thankfully we're picking up speed. I can owe some of that to my preliminary translation efforts which the extra week gave me time to set in motion.
As for the episodes of Phantom Blood we've missed. Well, stay tuned...
